Profile Summary Dr Conal Perrett studied medicine at the University of Bristol and underwent further postgraduate medical training in London and Oxford. After being awarded the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2001 he entered into specialist dermatology training at Barts andThe London and The Royal Free Hospital. Having completed this he embarked on a fellowship in Dermatological Surgery at The Welsh Institute of Dermatology at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. During this period he obtained subspecialist training in facial reconstructive techniques and Mohs micrographic surgery – the ‘gold standard’ method for treating skin cancers. He also has 15 years’ experience in the use of lasers in dermatology.

Dr Perrett is an active contributor to dermatology research. In 2002 he was awarded a prestigious Cancer Research UK (CR-UK) Clinical Research Fellowship. For his PhD thesis, he investigated how skin cancer develops in organ transplant patients on long-term immunosuppressive therapy, and how photodynamic therapy (PDT) can be used to treat skin cancers in these patients. The majority of his research was performed at the CR-UK London Research Institute and at the Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science, which is part of Barts and The London, with some studies taking place at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology, where he was an Honorary Clinical Fellow. Dr Perrett has since continued this research alongside his clinical commitments, and currently supervises a PhD student with his fellow collaborators at Cancer Research UK and Barts and The London.
