    Medical training
    Professor Hanna undertook undergraduate training in Medical Biochemistry and then Medicine at Manchester University graduating with honours in 1988. He undertook postgraduate medical and neurological training at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London. He undertook neurological research training as an MRC Clinical training fellow at the UCL Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London.

    Current Post
    Professor Hanna was appointed Consultant Neurologist to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, UCLH, NHS FT in 1998 and promoted to UCL Professor of Clinical Neurology in 2006. He was Clinical Director of the National Hospital from 2007-2012 and commenced as Director of the UCL Institute of Neurology, Queen Square in 2012.

    Additional Specialties
    Professor Hanna runs a general neurology service assessing patients with common neurological symptoms such as headaches, blackouts and stroke. In addition, he has an international reputation in diagnosing and treating patients with muscle weakness caused by neuromuscular diseases including motor neuron disease, muscular dystrophies, myositis, myasthenia gravis, mitochondrial diseases and channelopathies.

    Affiliations
    Professor Hanna is Director of the Queen Square Centre for Neuromuscular diseases for research and treatment. He has raised over £10m in research funding and £6m in NHS funding for specialised neuromuscular services over the past 5 years.

    Professor Hanna has published over 200 original research articles, books and book chapters covering many areas of neurology, neuromuscular diseases and neurogenetics.
