Mark O'Neill
Consultant Cardiologist

Dr O'Neill graduated from University College Dublin with First Class Honours. His medical degree was intercalated with a physiology doctorate (DPhil), which he completed at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He then moved to London, where training in general medicine and cardiology was followed by subspecialty training in interventional cardiac electrophysiology at St Mary’s Hospital. Dr O'Neill then trained in France, with Professor Michel Haissaguerre in Bordeaux, in order to gain particular expertise in atrial fibrillation: atrial fibrillation has remained his main clinical and research interest.

In early 2007, Dr O'Neill was appointed to a clinical lectureship in Cardiology at Imperial College and St Mary’s, and to a HEFCE senior lectureship in January 2008. In October 2009, he moved to St Thomas’ Hospital and King’s College to join the Department of Cardiology and Division of Imaging Sciences and Biomedical Engineering. He is the Division's research lead for EP and clinical lead in EP for the Cardiovascular Clinical Academic Group. In 2011, Dr O'Neill became a Fellow the the Heart Rhythm Society (FHRS) and in 2012 a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP)
